Exhibition News - What Do We Know?
“When religion, science and morals are shaken and when the outer supports threaten to fall, man turns his gaze from the external to the deeper essence within him” Blavatsky, H. (1881). Origin of Theosophy
As someone who creates through and from a spiritual source, I have no need to question my process. It just is. However, as an artist who stives to share her work with the wider world (including the art community), citing ‘Spiritual’ or 'Spirt' or 'Spirituality' as the source of my creations is met with a wide variety of responses - and not all favourable! Why? What are people afraid of?
The word ‘Spiritual’ has been hijacked to elicit different meanings and reactions. But what does it really mean? And can one word describe a multitude of feelings, experiences, viewpoints and forms of expression?
Myself and another eight artists from around the world have come together to explore these very questions in an exciting and diverse exhibition called What Do We Know. Curated by Art Director and Dealer, Karen van Hoey Smith, and featuring a variety of art forms from painting to photography and sculpture, we invite you to pause and explore the origins and connections between ‘Spiritual’ and art.
Launching today and open from 3 June - 30 June, this online exhibition is a collection of artists rebranding spiritual art by exploring the part of the human experience that quiets the noise and opens to empathy, connection, compassion etc.
All works will be for sale.
