Love Is... new mini abstract hearts on gold leaf

Love is everything and nothing. It drives the greatest stories, frees and binds us, challenges and inspires. It is the greatest energy on earth and we all deserve to give and receive love.

I have been working with gold leaf over the last few months and love the contrast of bright neon colours against the shiny metallic finish. When I was gilding these 5x5 inch wooden panels, some of the gold leaf came away. At first I wasn’t going to use them, thinking they were damaged, however feeling into it - and being and intuitive artist - it came to me that the imperfect finish on some of the panels was a perfect representation of love.

Love is messy. Love is vulnerability, and vulnerability means imperfection. It's you showing the parts of yourself that aren't beautiful. It means honesty in the messiness. It means nights that aren’t romantic, but real instead. It means puffy, crusty eyes in the morning, weeks or even months without sex, putting in the work, staying when you want to leave, arguing and making up. It is loneliness and and togetherness, it is compromise and power struggles. It is life in all it flawed glory.
